01 · The Challenge

An underdog, competing on three fronts.

AMT, a non-profit provider of health plans to small and mid-sized businesses, hired Princeton Partners to help them win in a highly competitive market. As a Multi-Employer Welfare Arrangement (MEWA), AMT faced unique marketing challenges.

MarketSmall & Mid-Sized Business Health Plans
1Competing against giant health insurance companies with national brand awareness and abundant marketing resources
2Operating in a small business market where thousands of local brokers place plans with major insurers on a commission basis
3Requiring new member businesses to belong to one of seventeen eligible business associations
02 · The Insight

AMT was uniquely built to offer more.

During discovery, we found that many small and mid-sized business owners were unsatisfied with their health plans — facing annual rate hikes and declining coverage and service. But AMT's purpose, business model, and organization are built to reverse this trend.

A new name, a new look, a caring culture communicated.

We changed the name. Association Master Trust became Association Member Trust. With a new logo and an uplifting new look and feel, we created a website and communications program that pushed creative educational assets out through the seventeen participating business associations.

Growing, despite a shrinking market.

AMT continues to grow its base of member companies despite a shrinking small business market and higher premiums in the post-pandemic period — now achieving strong operating results and sharing back dividends with its plan members.
